How to always get NEW fitness gear at a discount

When I first looked into fitness trackers, my mouth dropped.

The price to get top of the line — exactly what I need as a certified personal trainer — are crazy high! Especially if you really want to know the deep specifics of your health and track your well-being.

But after months of talking about getting a Fitbit Charge HR, one of my friends went ahead and got it for me as a gift. Talk about a swell guy, right?

Besides the inevitable motivation to get my ass off the couch even more, there was an unintended perk of using my Fitbit: never paying full price for fitness equipment again.

This system works extremely well for people that frequently shop at K-Mart, Sears and many other box retailers.

I started saving money long before I got my Fitbit.

To be honest, my money saving story started way before I had received my Fitbit, but it was that handy dandy step tracking device that was the catalyst to even more savings.

It all started when I became a Shop Your Way member a while ago.

As a Shop Your Way member, you earn points on purchases you make on virtually anything in K-Mart or Sears. And for me, that means saving some serious cash on fitness gear, apparel, and sneakers!

However, you don’t just earn points exclusively on purchases. You also earn points for the steps your Fitbit tracker accumulates throughout the days and weeks that you wear it. These points then offer you even steeper discounts towards products at Sears and K-Mart.

Here’s how to always get NEW fitness gear at a discount

As a preemptive warning, you have to have some technology know-how to make this all work seamlessly. That’s the entry fee to get into all of the savings.

Luckily, it’s not all that difficult. First:

  • Enroll as a Shop Your Way member
  • Go to Fit Studio and connect your Fitbit
  • Enable all-day sync on your Fitbit

By going through those steps, you’ve probably already landed some rewards points for just getting started. But wait — there’s more!

Because of my mom, I know of Ebates.com, which gives you a percentage back on all of your purchases at participating retailers — and Sears and K-Mart are a couple participants.

So go ahead and create an account over at Ebates so you can enroll into even more savings. It’s even easier if you add the Ebates app to your phone so you can have your membership ID ready to go when you get to the checkout.

Before I go any further, I want to give you the step-by-step process I use when it comes to this system:

  1. Open Ebates.com
  2. Choose the store you want (in this example, K-Mart)
  3. Choose and then place your product in the shopping cart
  4. Log into your Shop Your Way account (be sure to stay inside the Ebates app)
  5. Apply SYW points/coupons*
  6. Apply coupon codes
  7. Checkout

Your Ebates rewards will then show up a few hours after purchasing via email.

With this method, I have been able to easily shave off 10-40% off of all of my purchases at K-Mart and Sears. Oh, and don’t forget the purchase you just made has set you up with even more SYW points that you can use towards your next purchase.

And the entire time that you’re shopping around the store, you’re logging steps on your Fitbit which is also building up your SYW points.

Wrapping Up

With my Fitbit and the money saving system that I’ve set up around it, I’m regularly able to save between 10-40% at all participating retailers.

You could even get more complex if you wanted to — like with credit card-specific reward points or partner store rewards — but I’m fine with what I’m working with.

Couple points of interest to remember to never pay full price:

  • Enable emails from Shop Your Way
  • Turn on all-day sync within your Fitbit app so you get credit for your steps
  • Check the coupons section of Shop Your Way to see what coupons are available
